About

Hello and welcome to the Critical Care Minutes. This website is to be an educational and entertaining journey through life in the ICU. This blog will be a thorough online resource for students and residents and will contain several landmark articles, teaching videos for procedures as well as templates for writing notes / orders. I will review some of the common issues encountered in the ICU and plan on presenting an approach to solving those problems. “The Minutes” (as I like to nickname this blog) will also address some of the more “human” issues related to taking care of critically ill patients such as family, support, religion, faith, death and dying. And of course we will get to ICU 2.0! The future is now and we must recognize it.

So many advances have occurred in the science of medicine but for some reason the physicians are always the last to jump on the technological advances that are made all around us. My goal is to identify some of the most exciting technological advances that will take the management of patients in the ICU to the next level such as telemedicine and eICUs. ICU 2.0 will also be the location for the procedural teaching videos and ICU podcasts: eCritical Care is here to stay!In addition, this website is to also become a complete gateway for CCF SICU medical staff online communication. Here you will have the opportunity to view the most current SICU call schedules for residents, interns, fellows and staff. You will also have the opportunity to review of the recent topics discussed in the journal clubs, lecture series and fellow talks. A link to the actual powerpoint files as well as the journal articles discussed will be available for download.

This forum will provide unique means for the new residents and interns to ask the fellows and staff any important questions you may have regarding the management of critically ill patients as well as SICU structure. Over time I plan to have a collection of issues/questions that recur on a monthly basis as the new group of residents come to the SICU. Hopefully, this will make your experience in the Cleveland Clinic SICU more educational, enjoyable and definitely less stressful.I hope you enjoy this website while being informed as well as entertained.
